A temporary moratorium on the establishment of certain medical services – particularly those involved with the counseling and treatment of people with substance abuse disorders – was approved by the Stanton City Council on Tuesday night.

Such enterprises – which may employ medicines that can eliminate cravings and “withdrawal symptoms” – can have “negative impacts … if not properly regulated,” according to a staff report.

The moratorium also applies to the “expansion, enlargement or alteration” of existing uses in the city.

Also on Tuesday night, the council approved an increase in compensation for City Manager Hannah Shin-Heydom that will bring her annual salary up to $275,494, effective July 1.

That includes a 6 percent cost-of-living adjustment and a 7 percent merit-based salary increase.
