Censure resolution vs. Amy Phan West on the agenda

AMY PHAN WEST, Westminster Councilmember.

What could be the final  act in the effort by the council majority to censure of one of their group could be coming on Wednesday when the Westminster City Council meets in its chambers at 6 p.m.

The council will take up a resolution censuring Councilwoman Amy Phan West for “unacceptable conduct.”

Back in June of this year, Councilmember Carlos Manzo and Vice Mayor Kimberly Ho asked the council to support a measure of censure of West for a variety of alleged misdeeds,

The council majority eventually voted to prepare a resolution of censure and have staff bring it to the Aug. 14 meeting for adoption.. Voting in favor were Mayor Chi Charlie Nguyen, Ho and Manzo. Opposed were West and Councilmember Namquan Nguyen.

Accusations against West include violation of the code of ethics, being disruptive, and placing “her self-interest” over the needs of the constituents.

Also, the council will receive a report from the Westminster Police Department comparing second quarter crime statistics from 2023 to 2024.

For that period, violent crime is up by 7.04 percent and property crime is down by 5.69 percent.

The council will meet in its chambers at 8200 Westminster Blvd.
