The Los Amigos High football team – co-champs of the Garden Grove League in 2023 with Rancho Alamitos – continues to establish itself as a contender for the new Sigma League with a 33-14 pre-league win over University High of Irvine.
Over their first three games of the new season, the Lobos (3-0) have outscored opponents 126-21.
At Monsoor Stadium, Los Amigos piled up 347 yards rushing. Issac Galindo ran for two scores and Raul Cruz ran for another touchdown, and added a TD on a 75-yard screen pass.
He was also a force on defense, recovering a Trojan fumble and making three sacks.
The orange-and-black have a week off, and will return to non-league action on Thursday, Sept. 19, visiting Nogales High (1-1 so far).
Also staying unbeaten on Thursday were the La Quinta Aztecs (2-0), who started fast with a 13-0 first quarter lead and went on to defeat Bassett High of La Puente 41-6 at Bolsa Stadium.
The blue-and-gold have another home non-league game next week hosting Mountain View (1-1 so far) of El Monte at Bolsa on Friday, Sept. 13.
The other two local teams playing Thursday had less luck. Orange fell 55-35 to Foothill and Pacifica was blanked 24-0 by Northwood of Irvine.
For Orange (0-3), quarterback Star Thomas passed for 336 yards and three touchdowns, all to Gianni Porfilio. The Panthers will try again next Friday visiting La Habra (1-1).
Pacifica, coming off a 28-0 win over Garden Grove, will seek to get back on track on Thursday, Sept. 12 visiting Marina (2-0) at Westminster High’s Boswell Field.
