It may be a modest accomplishment, but the Los Angeles Angels’ 5-1 win over the Texas Rangers was the team’s third win in five games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, on the other hand, are nearing both a playoff berth and another National League West title with each game, win or lose.

The star of the Angels’ victory was catcher Logan O’Hoppe, who slugged a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning in Arlington. It was his 19th round-trip hit of the season.

Also impressive was Samuel Aldegheri (1-1), who pitched six innings and yielded just three hits and one run. He struck out seven batters and walked one.

With the victory, the Halos are 59-82 and remain in fifth and last place in the American League West, two games behind the fourth place Oakland A’s.

On Saturday, the Angels will send Tyler Anderson (10-12) to the mound against the Rangers.

At Dodger Stadium, the Blue Crew and the Cleveland Guardians played four scoreless innings before the visitors broke the deadlock in the sixth and went on to a 3-1 victory.

The only Dodger run came on Shohei Ohtani’s solo home run in the sixth inning, his 45th homer of the season.
Landon Knack (2-3) pitched well in defeat, going six innings and giving up just three hits and two runs. He struck out eight batters and walked one.

With the loss, the Dodgers are 84-57, but with San Diego’s 5-1 win over the Giants, their lead over the Padres in the National League West race is cut to four games.

On Saturday, the Dodgers will take on the Guardians again at 6:10 p.m.
