Chargers back at .500 with win

Edison High School’s football team squared its record at 2-2 with a 41-7 victory over Palos Verdes.

Savelio Niumata completed seven of eight passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns for the Chargers in the non-league contest. Julius Gillick carried 14 times for 216 yards and two scores.

Edison, our top-ranked High Five team, will play rival Fountain Valley (1-3) next Friday at LeBard Stadium on the Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa.

Bolsa Grande (1-2) broke into the win column before  a homecoming crowd, defeating previously unbeaten Century (3-1) by the score of 41-13.

Tank Britton completed 21 of 30 passes for three touchdowns. Mikey Haley rushed for three scores and caught a TD pass for the Matadors.

Next week Bolsa will try to make it two in a row when the Mats host Ocean View on Thursday. The Seahawks lost 14-13 to Artesia and are 0-4 for far in 2024.

Rancho Alamitos (3-0) remained unbeaten after a hard-fought 28-24 victory over Saddleback. 

The Vaqueros, who have won and tied for six consecutive Garden Grove League football titles, will continue their pre-league schedule next Friday against Godinez Fundamental (2-2).

Play in the new Sigma League will start on Oct. 3 against Estancia.
Also unbeaten is La Quinta (3-0). The Aztecs  defeated Mountain View of El Monte 42-12, pulling away with four second half touchdowns.

The blue-and-gold will be next in action next Friday visiting Glenn High (1-2) of Norwalk.
