Edison wins Battle for the Bell

The Edison Chargers kept their dominance over rival Fountain Valley on Friday night, defeating the Barons 49-6 and again winning the Battle for the Bell at LeBard Stadium on the Orange Coast College campus.

A balanced attack ran up a 42-0 halftime lead as the green-and-gold improved its record to 3-2.

Julius Gillick ran for two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Savelio Niumata threw for one TD pass and ran for another. Carson Schmidt ran back an interception for a score and Maddox Thomas and Ayden Degiacomon added touchdowns, as did Sam Thomson.

Edison will host La Serna next Friday.

Marina improved its record to 4-0 with a 21-7 non-league victory over Esperanza at Westminster High’s Bill Boswell Field. Garrett Hunnicutt passed for two scores and ran for another in the victory.

The Vikings take on Sunny Hills on Oct, 4.

Rancho Alamitos (4-0) and La Quinta (4-0) remained unbeaten with wins Friday. The Vaqueros bested Godinez Fundamental 37-3 and the Aztecs defeated Glenn 32-12.

Garden Grove (1-3) lost another close one, falling 24-21 to University High of Irvine. The Argonauts led 13-0 at halftime, but were defeated by a field goal in OT.

Huntington Beach (3-2) defeated Mayfair 31-21 and will next the on Laguna Hills on Oct. 4.
