Rent control for mobile homes?

Should the City of Stanton create a rent control program for mobile home parks in the city?

That’s one of several issues going before the Stanton City Council when it meets on Tuesday.

Councilmember Donald Torres requested on Oct. 22 that the topic be brought forward for discussion. Rents are at historically high levels in Orange County and mobile home residents – who typically rent space in parks for the units – are considered especially vulnerable to rising costs because many of them are on fixed incomes.

Also on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting are:

• consideration of an ordinance prohibiting the sale of “flavored” tobacco products by tobacco retailers;

• the second reading and adoption of an ordinance prohibiting short-term rentals in all zones in the city as well as banning “bed and breakfast” establishments in residential zones and mixed-use zones.

The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 7800 Katella Ave.

  1. If I ever won a big lottery, I’d buy a mobile home park and set it up so the residents owned the park and were well taken care of.
