Coach arrested on sex charge

A WESTMINSTER resident has been arrested on sexual assault charges (Shutterstock).

A Westminster resident who was coach of a girls’ basketball team at Santa Ana High School has been arrested on charges of sexual assault against a female student.

According to the SAPD, Edward Baxter, 23, was taken into custody at his home on Saturday and booked at the Santa Ana Jail on sexual assault charges.

Baxter is accused of having an unlawful relationship with a 16-year-old girl who was a student at SAHS.

The investigation began when a report was made around 8:30 p.m. on Friday about a male and female in the back seat of a car parked in he area of 1300 N. Tustin Ave.

The caller stated that the male was “believed” to be a coach at SAHS. Officers responding to the location found the vehicle to be gone, but detectives followed up.

They located the girl, who confirmed the relationship. Baxter was the head coach of Santa Ana High girls’ junior varsity team.
