The Garden Grove Police Department will have its own “eyes in the sky” with the approval on Tuesday of a purchase order to purchase “unmanned aerial vehicles” – also known as drones.
The vote was 7-0 in favor spending $74,851.63 to purchase the drones and “supporting equipment” from Advexure LLC.
Such vehicles can be used in a variety of public safety uses. In the staff report, the police department stated that “the ability to gain an aerial view over dangerous situations, reduces the risk to officers, improves searching and documentation capabilities and aids in the safe apprehension of criminals.”
Also on Tuesday, the council voted to proclaim Jan. 13, 2025 as Korean American Day in Garden Grove and – after a public hearing – voted to deny an appeal of a planning commission’s approval of a proposed seven-story, 98-unit apartment building on Garden Grove Boulevard near Galway Street.
