Today’s public safety tip.

If you own a firearm, don’t leave it in your car.

On Friday at 8:50 p.m. Westminster Police Department officers were patrolling in the area of Nancy Lee Drive and Westminster Boulevard where they spotted an occupied vehicle that had been reported as stolen three days before.

When reporting the theft, the victim said that he “possibly” had left his firearms in the vehicle.
Officers conducted a “high risk vehicle stop” and detained two people. The driver was identified and determined to be on parole for robbery. The passenger was identified and had an active felony warrant.

The vehicle was recovered and officers found a Mossberg shotgun belonging to the owner of the vehicle.

Both subjects were arrested and booked at Orange County Jail for multiple felonies including vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, being a felon in possession of a firearm and a felony arrest warrant.
