Nitrous oxide can be no laughing matter.
Commonly known as “laughing gas,” it’s a mild sedative that’s often used in dentistry. But it can be abused; people inhaling nitrous oxide can suffer from a a variety of side effects, including dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating and hallucinations.
To prevent the unsafe use of nitrous oxide, the Stanton City Council on Tuesday voted 5-0 to approve an ordinance regulating the sale of the substance within city limits.
Also on Tuesday, the council awarded a contract in the amount of $225,000 to Integrated Demolition and Remediation for the demolition and abatement of properties at 8880 Pacific Avenue and 8870 Tina Way, two properties plagued by problems associated with homeless persons.
Additionally the council voted 5-0 in favor of the first reading of a “social host” ordinance making property owners strictly liable for the illegal sales, storage or discharge of illegal fireworks.
The next meeting of the council is set for Tuesday, April 22.
