Liberal Party wins election; Carney to stay prime minister

MARK CARNEY, prime minister of Canada (WIkipedia).

In an election influenced by the remarks of President Donald Trump, Canada’s Liberal Party is on its way to an upset victory in Tuesday’s parliamentary elections.

According to the Associated Press, that almost certainly means that that Mark Carney will continue as prime minister for the nation.

The New York Times is projecting that the Liberals have won 114 seats so far, to 103 for the Conservatives and will end up with enough seats to claim a victory.

In Canada, the prime minister is not elected on popular vote but by the party which prevails in its Parliament.

The Liberals, beset by problems with the rising cost of living were underdogs until Trump began suggesting that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state and slapped on increased tariffs.

A wave of nationalism is credited with the apparent victory by Carney, who ran on an “anti-Trump” platform.

Weather: Sun, then clouds

After one day of sun, that old familiar “partly cloudy” condition should settle over our West Orange County cities. Tuesday is expected to have sunshine with a daytime high of 69 and an overnight low of 57. After that, it’s three days of PC weather. Highs for Wednesday through Friday should range from 66 to 67 with lows of 57 to 60.
