THE SANTIAGO HIGH softball has claimed its fourth consecutive league title. The Cavaliers finished the regular season with a 16-7 record and settled the Orange Coast League championship with an 11-1 victory over Anaheim High on Monday, May 5 at the Colonists’ home diamond (GGUSD photo).
Now, the waiting will begin.
The area regular high school baseball and softball seasons are completed and another first round of the CIF-SS playoffs are scheduled for Thursday, May 15, although no details have yet been released.
Now that league action has been finished, we see that four local teams are softball champions, based on statistics submitted.
This may be subject to change as coaches, athletic directors and administrators get caught up on their paperwork.
The league champs from our West Orange County cities are Pacifica (in a three-way tie for the Crestview League crown with El Modena and Cypress), Huntington Beach (in a tie with Los Alamitos for the Sunset League pennant) Westminster (first in the Orange Coast League, and Santiago (Orange Coast Conference).
Among baseball teams, at least two teams can hoist a league title flag.
They are Huntington Beach (Sunset League) and Garden Grove (Orange Coast League).
First round pairings will be announced soon (likely on Monday. League champs will get home games (usually) and teams finishing second and third will likely get road games, but nothing is certain until CIF-SS officials sort out the details.
We will publish those pairings that affect our coverage area as soon as we receive them.
