FIREFIGHTER raises one of the many new American flags on Garden Grove’s historic Main Street on Friday afternoon (Tribune photo).
The star-spangled banners that line a block of Garden Grove’s historic Main Street are getting a new wave of banners and a new way to pay for them.
The Garden Grove Neighborhood Association and the Garden Grove Downtown Business Association are joining in an effort to replace the flags twice annually. The red-white-and-blue are on display 24 hours a day and take a beating from the sun, wind and exhaust fumes.
On Friday afternoon new set of flags were hoisted by city workers and the Orange County Fire Authority. To keep a fresh supply of them, donations are sought – no amount too small – to buy the flags and hardware at $40 each, or $1600 a year.
To donate, mail a check to the GGNA at 12381 Meade St., Garden Grove CA 92841. For other ways to pay, contact maureen.ggna@gmail.com or call (714) 235-5360.
