West Orange County’s two remaining survivors in the third round of the CIF-SS baseball playoffs met a similar fate on Friday afternoon.
In Division 7, Garden Grove traveled to San Pedro to take on Mary Star of the Sea and suffered an 8-7 loss. The Argonauts (21-10) were the Orange Coast League champions, and all three of their playoff games were decided by one run.
In Division 8, La Quinta (17-8) lost 3-2 to Fillmore High. The Aztecs led 2-1 going into the sixth inning, but the Flashes scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
The blue-and-gold finished second in the Grove League.
IN SOFTBALL, two area schools remain in CIF-SS playoff action on Saturday. Westminster (16-11) takes on the Rancho Mirage Rattlers (17-10) in a Division VII quarterfinal contest.
In another quarterfinal game, the Yorba Linda Mustangs (16-12) will host the Marina Vikings (17-13) in a Division III game.
