A suspect is in jail, charged with a fatal beating of a man in Westminster on Monday..

According to Commander Andy Stowers of the WPD, James Metcalf, 54, of Westminster is being held in Orange County Jail in Santa Ana for a murder in which the body was found south of Westminster Civic Center on 13th Street.

The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of the next-of-kin, is believed to have died several hours before the discovery of the body around 6:15 p.m.

He had injuries to his face and head, arriving officers determined.

Metcalf had been arrested earlier in the day on an unrelated vandalism charge. During the homicide investigation, additional evidence was found linking Metcalf to the crime, according to Stowers.
