Nolan Schanuel singled home Chris Taylor with what proved to be the winning run in the fifth as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-4 Friday night in Anaheim and moved the Halos into third place in the American League West.
The home team (29-33) rallied three times to tie the game. Other key hits were Travis d’Amaud’s two-run homer in the fourth and Taylor’s RBI double in the fifth.
Kyle Hendricks (3-6) was battered a bit through six innings giving up eight hits and four runs, but the bullpen pitched a no-hitter the rest of the way.
For the Los Angeles Dodgers, the National League West race tightened as they lost 5-0 to the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Diego Padres blanked Milwaukee 2-0 to move within one game of the division lead.
The Blue Crew’s offense never could convert its 10 hits into any runs. Mookie Betts had three hits and Andy Pages had two but the Dodgers (38-26) batted 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
Justin Wrobleski (1-2) took the loss, giving up six hits and four runs in six innings. He struck out five batters and walked three others.
