Halos lose Wash and game, Dodgers defeat Nationals

The Los Angeles Angels on Friday lost more than the opening game of a series with the Houston Astros. They lost – temporarily, it’s hoped – field manager Ron Washington, who’s being sidelined with shortness of breath and fatigue.

Bench coach Ray Montgomery took over as the Angels lost 3-2 in Anaheim. Trailing 2-0 early, they caught up with solo home runs by Jo Adell and Christian Moore. but lost the game in 10 innings.

The home team had a chance to win it with bases-loaded in the eighth, but couldn’t score.

Now 36-39, the Halos fell into fourth place in the American League West.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (47-30) held off late rallies by the Washington Nationals and won 6-5, bringing their lead in the National League West to 4.5 games.

Miguel Rojas homered and batted 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Andy Pages was 2-for-4 and Shohei Ohtani 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.

Teo Hernandez added a single and a double.

Clayton Kershaw (3-0) had a decent start, working five innings while giving up five hits and two earned runs. He struck out four Nats and walked two.
