With their seventh loss in a row on Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers have revived the National League West race.
A late rally after falling behind 8-2 wasn’t enough as the Blue Crew lost 8-7 to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park and allowed their rivals to creep within four games.
Also benefiting are the San Diego Padres, who are now 4.5 games back.
Trailing by six runs, the Dodgers got close with a two run double by Teo Hernandez, a two-run homer by Michael Conforto and an RBI single by Will Smith.
The visitors got a brief 2-1 lead in the third inning on Shohei Ohtani’s 32nd home run.
The series continues on Saturday and Sunday.
Conversely, the Los Angeles Angels jumped off to an early 4-0 first inning lead on homers by Zach Neto and Yoan Moncada and won it in the ninth on a pinch hit RBI single by Travis d’Arnaud in the bottom of the ninth in Anaheim by 6-5.
Nolan Schanuel and Luis Rengifo each had three-hit games for the Angels.
The Halos (46-48) remain in fourth place in the American League West race, a half-game behind the Texas Rangers (47-48).
