Toronto is still cold vs. Dodgers

After being thumped in the World Series last October, the Toronto Blue Jays doubtless hoped for a measure of payback when the Los Angeles Dodgers – the world champion Dodgers – came into Rogers Centre for, perhaps, a little turnabout.

Little is right. With the Blue Crew’s 4-1 win over the Jays on Tuesday night, the visitors won the first two games of the three-game series and rubbed some “snow” onto hopes for a happy rematch.

Four different Dodgers drove in runs for the West Coast team, and the Blue Jays could only muster six hits and the one run and never lead.

Driving in runs for LA were Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, Alex Freeland and Kyle Tucker. The sole Toronto tally came on an eighth-inning double by George Springer.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto (2-1) pitched six innings for the Dodgers, giving up just five hits and one run. He struck out six Blue Jays and walked one.

The teams will meet again at Chavez Ravine on Wednesday. Tuesday’s results put the Dodgers at 9-2, winners of five in a row and holders of a four-game lead in the NL West. Toronto is 4-7 (fourth in the NL East) and losers of six in a row.
