Driver, 62, held for suspected DUI in pedestrian fatal

A DUI suspect was arrested after a fatal traffic accident in Huntington Beach (Shutterstock).

A 62-year-old Costa Mesa man was arrested Saturday night in Huntington Beach is connection with a fatal traffic accident that took the life of a pedestrian.

According to the HBPD, the incident took place around 6 p.m. at Brookhurst Street and Crailet Drive and involved a white Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicle and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian – not immediately identified – was found unconscious in the street. She was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota cooperated with investigators. Police believe that impairment was a factor in the incident. He was arrested for driving under the influence.

It’s unknown if the pedestrian was impaired.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the RAV4 was traveling northbound on Brookhurst struck the pedestrian south of the intersection with Crailet Drive.
