A special election will be held in California on Nov. 4 to give the state more Democratic Congressmembers to offset Republican plans in Texas to redistrict to add five more to their lineup.
According the the Associated Press, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the move on Thursday, which could trigger more partisan redistricting and court battles.
Republicans hold a narrow edge in the House of Representatives and are concerned about the 2026 midterm elections, as the party in control of the White House usually loses ground at that time.
All this could be headed off if Texas Republicans end their special session to redraw Congressional maps and Democrats – in return – drop their own plan.
ICE in DC will have immigration role

The New York Times is reporting that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi rescinded polices that restricted D.C. police from helping in immigration enforcement.
Bondi also announced that Terry Cole, head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, would become “emergency police commissioner”for Washington.
