The Rose Center’s future

ROSE CENTER THEATER in Westminster.

It was symbolic perhaps that Wednesday’s meeting of the Westminster City Council took place in the Rose Center Theater.

Not only did the council take up amendments to the agreement for the operation and culture programming with Friends of the Abbey Center for the operation of the 419-seat facility near the Civic Center, it comes at a time when the city is taking a look at the theater’s future.

Among other changes proposed in the amendment is charging the Friends a 5 percent ‘venue” fee to offset the utility fee of operating the theater starting on July 1, 2026.

The city has retained TheaterDNA, a consulting firm to make recommendations for the Rose Center’s future including “alternative management opportunities,””evaluate overall facility usage” and “review requests for proposals for venue operator services.”
