A new city treasurer was appointed by the Huntington Beach City Council when it met on Tuesday.

The council voted 7-0 to select Jason Schmitt to serve as Surf City’s top financial officer.

A devotee of former President Ronald Reagan, he thanked the council for its decision and said that he admired the 40th president of the United States that the family dog has been named “Reagan.”

He vowed to use his office to help the city’s residents and quoted Reagan – the president, not the dog – in saying “all great ideas start at the kitchen table.”

Also on Tuesday night – without comment – the council approved on a 7-0 vote Resolution 2025-57, acknowledging that an earlier Resolution 2023-41 – which established the controversial “parent-community review board” for the city’s library system – was no longer in effect as a result of the passage of the citizen-approved Measure A in June.

The next meeting of the council is set for Tuesday, Sept. 2.
