Does Stanton need more public safety services than are being provided by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department?
At Tuesday’s meeting of the City Council, there will be discussion of Councilmember Victor Barrios’ suggestion that a request for proposal for temporary contract security guard services be created.
Such security guards would be employed to patrol city parks, facilities, streets and rights-of-way.
Stanton does not have its own police department. Police services are provided by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, which operates out of the former SPD offices in the Stanton Civic Center.
In recent months, there has been discussion at council meetings about public safety issues including increases in homelessness and prostitution.
Also on the agenda is a proposed resolution requiring applicants for commercial cannabis business assignment to pay a fee of $22,566.98.
Commercial cannabis operations have been pitched to Stanton as a way to boost – perhaps dramatically –tax revenue to the city.
But there have been some instances in which such operations allegedly have not fully complied with the agreements with the city.
The council will meet in closed session at 5:30 p.m. with the regular session scheduled for 6 p.m. in the City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave.
