Chargers win; Vaqs are 2-0

Sam Thomson threw three touchdown passes as the Edison Chargers bounced back from last week’s defeat to dominate the Lakewood Lancers 31-0 on Friday night.

All three of those scoring passes were to Matthew Auau. The Chargers are 2-1 and will next face Palos Verdes (2-1) on Friday, Sept. 12.
Edison is the top-ranked team in our High Five.

Two area teams remain undefeated. Rancho Alamitos ran up a 28-7 halftime lead and went on to defeat Anaheim 35-17 on Friday to improve to 2-0.

La Quinta and Bassett of La Puente fought to a 6-6 tie. The Aztecs are 1-0-1.

In other games on Friday night, Pacifica (2-1) defeated Northwood of Irvine 20-14 and Ocean View (1-1) won a close one, edging Buena Park 28-27.
Orange (2-1) squeezed by Los Osos 15-7.

Two undefeated area high school football teams are unbeaten no longer after Thursday’s games.

In a clash of our High Five second- and third-ranked teams, Huntington Beach beat Western 48-7 to drop the Pioneers to 2-1. The Oilers are 2-1 now.
Los Amigos (now 2-1) lost 23-7 to University High of Irvine.

Garden Grove fell to 0-3 as the Argonauts lost 48-31 to Santa Ana. The red-and-white continue to show a powerful offense with a struggling defense, having been outscored 118 to 88 so far.

Grove will have a week off, and then try to get a win on Friday, Sept. 19 hosting University High of Irvine (1-1).

• Santiago 26, Savanna 13.
