I follow a lot of food “influencers” on social media and often try their restaurant recommendations. I’ve had experiences that have ranged from very good to extremely disappointing, but my latest find via Instagram was certainly one of the good ones: Wow Spaghetti in Westminster.
Located near the corner of Beach and Westminster Boulevards, Wow Spaghetti has been serving up oodles of noodles for more than two years.
When I stopped in on a weekday just before 5 p.m., there were a handful of diners in the small, unassuming location and several coming in and grabbing their grub to go.
What sets Wow Spaghetti apart from other purveyors of pasta? Well, they make their own fresh, preservative-free pasta in house, using premium semolina flour imported from Italy. Wow, indeed.
They also offer a build your own pasta option (starting at $9.99) where you choose your sauce and type of pasta, with the option to add proteins and/or vegetables if you wish. (You can also choose your spice level; if you like things very spicy, go for the Buldak chicken as your protein.)
There are nine different pasta sauces listed on the menu: everything from the traditional (Bolognese meat sauce, Marinara) to the adventurous (Creamy Curry, Sweet Garlic Soy). The addition of proteins will set you back an average of $4.50, and the options include bacon, meatballs, pork and beef sausage, shrimp, Bulgogi ground beef, and Bulgogi Ribeye.
If the build-your-own option is not for you, the menu lists Wow Spaghetti’s top 10 options. These range from the Creamy Dreamy sauce— aka alfredo—with bacon or shrimp to Spicy Chicken Garlic with mushroom and spinach.
I ordered at the counter and opted for one of the more traditional top 10 choices, the Bolognese with meatballs. The dish was served promptly and the ratio of meat sauce to pasta was very good—definitely no skimping on the meat here.
Overall, the pasta tasted very fresh and the sauce had a nice flavor to it. And although the bowl the pasta is served in looks a little on the smallish side, by the time I got to the bottom of the bowl, I
was absolutely stuffed. This is one hearty and filling meal to be sure. The only negative was that the meatballs seemed to be the bagged variety that you purchase at the grocery store.
To accompany my pasta, I ordered the Ciabatta Garlic Bread, which was toasted to perfection and served as a nice way to scoop up the last of my spaghetti sauce.
Definitely a must-try.
With fall rapidly approaching, Wow Spaghetti is a good option for a quick, hot meal to that’ll fill your stomach. Wow Spaghetti is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m.
to 8 p.m., and the address is 7852 Westminster Blvd. in Westminster. The phone number is (714) 248-9652, and you can follow them on Instagram at wowspaghettiusa.
