Westminster took its place in the national controversy over the redistricting of Congressional seats on Wednesday as the city council voted to go on record opposed to Proposition 50, which calls on Californians to approve redrawing those districts.
The council voted 4-1 in favor of a resolution, with Councilmember Carlos Manzo opposed.
He said that the measure was “divisive” and should not have been brought before the council as it was not a local issue.

In response, California Gov. Gavin Newsom urged the state legislature to put the issue to voters of redrawing Golden State districts for more Democrats, offsetting the effects of actions in Texas.
Mayor Chi Charlie Nguyen replied that Prop. 50 would take the power of drawing districts from a citizen commission and place it in the hands of politicians.
Republicans hold a slim edge in the House of Representatives; the loss or gain of a few seats in the November midterm election could shift the balance of power in Washington.

Then why was it allowed in Texas??
The proposition specifically states that after the midterms, we go back to the citizens commission. This is a one shot deal. You all should read the prop before you vote,
