A gunman in a pickup truck drove his vehicle through the doors of a chapel in Michigan on Sunday, taking the lives of at least four people and hurting at least eight others.
The Associated Press is reporting that the driver opened fire, set the building on fire and was fatally shot by police.
The incident took place in the Grand Blanc Township at a Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – commonly known as Mormons – chapel during a Sunday service at around 10:25 a.m.
According to the AP, authorities named the shooter as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, of the neighboring town of Burton.
It’s believed that a complete search of the charred chapel hadn’t been completed and more bodies may be found.
Sanford was a Marine veteran and deployed to Iraq in 2007 to 2008. As a civilian he was an auto mechanic and vehicle recovery operator.
