A WESTMINSTER man is held on attempted murder and hit-and-run charges (Shutterstock).

The public’s help is being sought in connection with the prosecution of a man arrested for attempted murder and felony hit-and-run in Westminster.

According to Commander Andy Stowers of the Westminster Police Department, arrested on Friday was Alexis Ruiz, 25, of Westminster.

The incident took place around 5 a.m. in the 15300 block of Beach Boulevard on Sept 12. The victim – identified as a 39-year-old man – was riding a bicycle when he was hit by a motor vehicle and sustained major injuries.

The suspect fled the scene and detained after his vehicle struck an unidentified parked vehicle. Responding officers learned the suspect had made “verbal contact” with the victim, indicating that the collision may have been an intentional act.

The suspect vehicle was found about a half-mile away. A “person of interest” was detained, but released the same day.

Further investigation, according to Stowers, revealed more evidence leading to the arrest of Ruiz – the “person of interest” – on Friday.

Ruiz is being held at Orange County Jail and the investigation is still underway. A possible gang enhancement to charges may be added.
