
RANCHO ALAMITOS and eight other area football teams will open league play this week (Tribune photo).
The CIF-SS football playoff pairings for first round action were announced on Sunday. Nine local teams from schools serving Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster were included.
All games – unless otherwise – indicated – are set for a kickoff on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
Seeded local teams include Pacifica (7-3) – third in Division 10 and Rancho Alamitos (6-4) – second in Division 13.
Division 3: Huntington Beach (8-2) at Edison (8-2).
Division 4: Western (6-4) at Cathedral (5-5).
Division 5: Orange (6-4) at Troy (9-1).
Division 8: Marina (6-4) at Palm Desert (7-3).
Division 10: El Rancho (6-4) at Pacifica (7-3).
Division 11: Ocean View (7-3) at Santa Paula (5-5).
Division 13: Montebello (4-6) at Rancho Alamitos (6-4).
Division 14: Bolsa Grande (5-5) at Ontario (6-4).
Girls did well, too, but none made finals
The 2025 girls flag football season is nearly over and five local teams made the playoffs, but none advanced to the finals.
In Division 1, Edison defeated Newport Harbor 6-0 in Round 1, but lost to Dos Pueblos in the quarterfinal, 12-6. Huntington Beach opened with a 19-0 win over Esperanza, and won its quarterfinal game over Camarillo 20-6. But Oilers fell 33-0 to Orange Lutheran in the semifinals.
In Division 5, Rancho Alamitos advanced to the quarterfinals with wins over Lawndale (30-22) and San Gorgonio (18-7) before losing 20-0 to Moreno Valley.
In Division 6, La Quinta was knocked out in Round 1 by 35-20 to Montebello and Los Amigos fell 34-6 to Adelanto.
The championship games are on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Fred Kelly Stadium on the campus of El Modena High School in Orange.
