E-bikes on the agenda Tuesday

AN ELECTRIC BIKE

There may be bigger issues than reckless riders on electronic bikes, but not if one is coming at you on a sidewalk at 30 miles an hour.

The Huntington Beach City Council will meet on Tuesday and two of the items on the agenda concern how to make moving around safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Item is submitted by Councilmembers Butch Twining, Andiew Gruel and Chad Williams. They’re asking the city manager to explore pedestrian and bike safety projects and funding, and to work with CalTrans and local legislators to support and identify funding and prioritize pedestrian and bike safety projects.

Also on the agenda is the approval for introduction of a ordinance with new bicycle safety regulations.

The council will meet at 5 p.m. in a closed session and at 6 p.m. for a study session and regular meeting. The meeting is held in the Council Chambers, 2000 Main St.

  1. If a regular bike rider can’t be on the side walk then it only goes to say that no e-bike rider should ever be on the side walk. Keep pedestrians safe. Pedestrians also have the right of way in California although you’d never know it with cars/ e-bikes turning into crosswalks with pedestrians still in them!
