A 71-year-old man from Huntington Beach was fatally injured when he was walking near the intersection of Springdale Street and Brannen Drive and was struck by a Ford 250 pickup truck on Monday.

According to the HBPD, the incident took place around 6:25 a.m. Arriving officers found the driver, a 37-year-old Huntington Beach man uninjured, but the pedestrian was found unconscious in the roadway.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The truck driver cooperated with investigators and impairment doesn’t appear to be a factor with him. It’s not known if it was a factor with the pedestrian.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the truck was traveling northbound on Springdale Street and struck the pedestrian north of the intersection with Brannen Drive.
