ST. IRENAEUS Catholic Church and School in Cypress (Orange County Diocese).
A neighborhood in Cypress got a bit of a scare on Thursday when a man carrying what appeared to be a rifle entered the grounds of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church and School near the 9100 block of Evergreen Ave.
According to police, officers responded the call about 10:23 a.m. Cypress officers along with agencies from surrounding cities secured the property and the school was placed on lockdown.
The man was contacted “without incident” and was found to be unarmed at the time. An air rifle was later located, and the man was arrested for possession of possession of a weapon on school grounds.
The lockdown was then lifted and there’s “no ongoing threat to the public.”
