Could Garden Grove’s parks use a little more security? A little more “law and order” to curb graffiti and keep restrooms from having to be locked to deter vandalism?

Well, help is on the way.

On Tuesday night the Garden Grove City Council voted to award a contract to Lyons Security Services, Inc. to kick off a new “Park Security Program.”

The cost of program will be $185,000 for a six-month trial, with the option to extend the agreement for up to four one-year terms based on the success of the pilot program.

Locations to be served are Garden Grove Park, Magnolia Park, Chapman Sports Complex, Eastgate Park, Pioneer Park and Haster Basin Park.

Goals of the program include success in reducing vandalism and supporting extended restroom hours.
Lyons was chosen from among 28 proposals from security firms. The selection panel cited Lyons’ experience with other Orange County cities. References, according to a staff report, described Lyons as “professional, reliable, and easy to coordinate with.”
