Five local girls basketball teams won their CIF-SS playoff games on Thursday, and two soccer teams as well.

In Division 3 basketball action, Huntington Beach lost 52-44 to Wilburn da Vinci. In D-4 play, Marina defeated St.Genevieve 40-36.

Garden Grove win 52-41 in D-7 action and Orange defeated Cal Military 50-32 in Division 8 action. Also in D-8, Westminster lost 55-46 to Pacific Christian.

In D-9 action, Western bested Avalon 35-21.

In girls’ soccer playoffs, Mater Dei defeated Huntington Beach 2-0 in the Open Division play.
In Division 1, Edison bested Mission Viejo 2-0 and Pacifica edged Torrance 1-0.

in D-6, Ocean View won 2-0 over Barstow. while Westminster lost 2-1 to Desert Hot Springs..

Division 7 play saw La Quinta lose 3-0 to Savanna and Santiago fall 1-0 to Saddleback. And in D-8, Bolsa Grande lost 2-0 to Shalhevet.
