Taken into custody was a man identified as Khang Hoang Luu.

The incident began around 12:34 p., when police were notified of a report at McGarvin Intermediate School of a man “jumping the fence” at the south end of campus, away from students.

A “secure campus alert” was sounded due to an unknown person being on campus during school hours. Students were kept in their classrooms as a “precautionary measure,” according to WPD Commander Bill Drinnin.

The intruder was described as wearing a cropped hooded sweatshirt, boxer shorts and with a “shiny object” in his hands (which turned out to be a loosely-fitted watch).
Police, who arrived within two minutes, found the man lying on the baseball field by himself. No one was injured.

“Thank you to our school officials who acted quickly and out of an abundance of care, implemented a secure campus to ensure the safety of students and staff,” said WPD Chief Darin Lenyi.
