Eight scholarships are won by seniors from the GGUSD

SENIORS from each of GGUSD’s seven comprehensive high schools were recognized as AVID Senior Standouts during a recent recognition and scholarship presentation hosted by the Orange County Department of Education.

EIGHT AVID seniors from Garden Grove Unified School District were awarded $82,500 in college scholarship during the 2026 AVID Senior Standout Recognition and Scholarship Presentation hosted on April 15 by the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) at the Irvine Barclay Theatre at UCI.

One of the featured speakers was Santiago High School Delver Camacho who shared his personal journey and reflected on how AVID helped shape his path to success.

“The AVID program opens incredible doors for our students, and as a district with a long-standing commitment to AVID—including three National AVID Demonstration Schools and implementation across our elementary, intermediate, and high schools—we have seen firsthand the powerful impact it has on student success,” said GGUSD Board of Education President Bob Harden. “We take great pride in honoring these outstanding AVID scholars who are well prepared for success beyond the classroom. These scholarships can be life-changing, helping turn students’ college dreams into reality.”

The event also recognizes impressive senior standout students who embody the spirit of perseverance, academic excellence and leadership that defines the AVID program. Senior standout students from GGUSD include Joseph Bui, Bolsa Grande High School; Alicia Dao, Garden Grove High School; Kathleen Quach, La Quinta High School; Vicky Ha, Los Amigos High School; Yu-Cheng Chang, Pacifica High School; David Anguiano, Rancho Alamitos High School and Delver Camacho, Santiago High School.
