A showdown between two of the top teams in Major League Baseball on Friday night was just about as close as you could expect.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs met at Chavez Ravine and while the Blue Crew built an early 4-0 lead, it was the visitors who had the last word, rallying with five runs for a 6-4 win.
With the game tied at four, Dansby Swanson won it for the Cubs with a two-run homer in the top of the ninth. The loss put the Dodgers at 17-9, a half-game behind the San Diego Padres in the National League West.
As for the Los Angeles Angels, they lost their fifth game in six tries in falling 6-3 to the Kansas City Royals.
They are now 12-15 overall and tied for third place in the American League West with the Seattle Mariners.
The key to the loss was a five-run fourth inning collapse. The Angels rallied with three runs in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough.
Second baseman Vaughn Grissom had the best night for the Halos with two hits; he’s batting .292.
The worst night was by Yusei Kikuchi (0-3), who yielded five runs in five innings to see his ERA rise to 6.21.
