A Hawthorne resident has been arrested for the fatal shooting of an Anaheim woman who was a former girlfriend.
According to the Tustin Police Department, charged with murder is Juan Marquez, 47. He was taken into custody on Saturday, May 16
Investigators have discovered that on May 14, Marquez allegedly laid in wait near the workplace of Sandra Fernandez, 42, at the intersection of Yorba Street and Medford Avenue. She sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
Police say that following the incident, Marquez fled across the border into Mexico at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
Officers obtained a warrant for his arrest and U.S. Custom and Border Protection agents detained Marquez as he sought to return to the U.S, through the border checkpoint.
TPD officers took Marquez into custody and booked him into Orange County Jail on a charge of murder. He’s being held without bail.
