A traffic collision between a sport utility vehicle and a minivan in Huntington Beach took the life of a 65-year-old man.

On Wednesday at about 5:20 p.m., HBPD officers responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Gothard Street and Lorge Circle between a tan Chevrolet Colorado and a white Toyota Sienna.

Arriving officers found the driver of the Chevolet, a 65-year-old man from Huntington Beach, unconscious in his vehicle. Paramedics were summoned to the scene.

The driver was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and and was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Toyota, a 60-year-old man from Westminster, cooperated with investigators and impairment does not appear to be a facto. It is unknown if impairment was a factor with the driver of the Chevrolet.

According to the preliminary investigation, both vehicles were moving southbound on Gothard Street south of Lorge Circle when the Chevrolet struck the Toyota.

The Chevy, still moving south on Gothard, crossed over into the northbound lanes of traffic and collided with a tree on the side of the freeway.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or events leading up to it are asked to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator Cameron Houlston at (714) 536-5670.\
