Have the the toxic fumes leak from a West Garden Grove plastics firm has created enough complications and uncertainty that the Strawberry Festival parade scheduled for Saturday (today) won’t be held?
While the City of Garden Grove website states that the parade has been “postponed,” Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association President Steve Sanders said on Friday night that the event had been cancelled.
George Brietigam, city councilman for the West Garden Grove district most affected, stated that the parade had been cancelled.
The chemical leak first reported on Thursday appeared to be contained, and the evacuation area confined to an area of West Garden Grove. But because of difficulties faced in containing the crisis, the evacuation zone was expanded to include parts of Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress and Stanton.
Beach Boulevard, one of the busiest thoroughfares in Orange County was closed.
