Week Zero is anything but for a zero for fans of the Edison High School football team.

That’s the game that’s played before (almost) everyone else does and for good reason. The Chargers will open the 2026 season for our West Orange County teams with a dream of a “road trip” by taking on ‘Iolani High of Honolulu on Saturday.

It won’t be a season opener for the Raiders, though. They started last week with a 27-6 win over the Baldwin Bears of Wailuku.

‘Iolani was 3-4 last year, while Edison is coming off a 7-6 season, 0-3 in the tough Alpha League, losing to Los Alamitos, Mission View and San Clemente, but still reaching the third round of the CIF-SS playoffs where they defeated Huntington Beach and Inglewood before falling to Palos Verdes in the Division 3 semifinals. They lost 23-10 to a team they had beaten earlier in the season in a non-league contest.

The green-and-gold will have five pre-league games – including a re- re-match with Palos Verdes on Sept. 11 – before starting conference play in the Alpha League on Oct. 2 when they travel to Mission Viejo.
