Proposed salary hike for mayor, and city council withdrawn

If you’re wondering why there was no article in the Wednesday edition of The Tribune about a proposed ordinance before the Westminster City Council to more than double the salary of the mayor and the council members …

That’s because it was taken from the agenda at the request of Councilmember Namquan Nguyen.

The proposal was supposed to go before an adjourned meeting of the city council on Monday, but that was as far as it went.

Under the proposal, the mayor would see his monthly salary go to $2500 and $1900 for councilmembers.

That would have been an increase for the council from $850.50 a month, and from $1000.50 for the mayor. The total annual cost to the budget – salary plus benefits – would have been $77,551.

If approved, it would have gone into effect after the 2026 election.
