With an unusual slump now behind them, the Los Angeles Dodgers continued to return to winning ways with a 5-4 10th-inning victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at home.

It was team’s fourth win in a row as the Blue Crew worked at undoing the damage done by a seven-game losing streak earlier this month.

The Pirates rallied from a 4-2 deficit with two runs in the top of the eighth on a homer by Ornell Cruz. The game was finally decided on a single to shallow left by Tommy Edmman that scored Enrique Hernandez with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.

With the win, LAD has won seven of 10 games. At 78-51, the team now leads the second-place San Diego Padres by nine games in the National League West race.

The Dodgers broke into the lead in the third when Mookie Betts’ single brought in Shohei Ohtani and Hunter Feduccia.

Edman batted 2-for-5 snd drove in the winning run. Ohtani was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks.

Starting pitcher Yoshi Yamamoto worked 6.1 innings for the Dodgers, yielding five hits and two earned runs. He struck out nine batters and walked one.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday with Tarik Skull (7-7) making the start for Los Angeles.

Angels lose, but stay out of last

The Los Angeles Angels lost another frustrating one-run game on Tuesday night by the score of 2-1 to the Texas Rangers.

But the team and its fans can draw some consolation from the Athletics’ 4-0 loss to the Houston Astros, their fifth defeat in a row, enabling the Halos to continue in fourth place in the American League West.

The Angels were able to keep even with Texas, losing in 10.

The sole Angel run came on a  double by Denzer Guzman, driving in Jose Siri for a 1-0 lead.

But Houson countered in the bottom of the 10th when Ezequiel Duran singled in one run, with the game-winner coming on a throwing error by the Angels.
