In what’s considered one of the key election races to determine which party controls the U.S. Senate, President Donald Trump on Saturday will take a tour into the battleground state of Ohio.
According to he Associated Press, it’s part of the 32-state effort by the present to shore up Republican chances at a time when polling indicates a tough year for the GOP.
Trump’s tour will include Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama as well as the Buckeye State. Special attention is focused on Ohio, where former three-term Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown is running against appointed Republican incumbent Jon Husted. Brown lost his seat to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024.
“They threw him out of the Senate once before. He’s horrible,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House for Ohio.
An average or recent polls shows Brown ahead by about four percentage polls.
Prison chief quits after failed execution
The top official of the Tennessee Bureau of Prisons has resigned his post after the failed execution of murderer Christa Pike.
United Press International is reporting that Frank Stra tendered his resignation – which was accepted by Gov. Bill Lee – after the two doses of drug used for her intended execution failed to kill her.
She is unconscious and on a ventilator. Executions have new paused for the rest of the year.
Strada said he was quitting “in the best interests of Tennesseans.” No replacement has been named. He did say that the prison officials carried out the standard “protocols” in the attempted execution process and the cause of its failure was unknown to him.

A online campaign to protect the identity of a Cornell University student who accused fraternity members of a gang rape in 2024 has arisen on TikTok.
The “IAmJAneDoe” campaign asks people to flood the internet with false leads intended to protect the woman’s privacy, reports USA Today
The university has been criticized for its handling of the incident, which resulted in no criminal charges in 2024 but did result in expulsions of some men by the university, some suspensions and now, a lawsuit.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has appointed Attorney General Letitia to lead an independent investigation, calling the original inquiry “deeply flawed.”

This is supposed to be autumn, but it’s more like summer in the desert. The forecasts for our West Orange County cities are for daytime highs of 100 or higher through Tuesday. Saturday will hit 103 during the day and cool to 76 at night. Sunday will be slightly cooler at 102, then return to 103 on Monday. Tuesday brings a little bit of relief to 100. Overnight lows are in the range of 72 to 76.
