The long-awaited “Town Hall” on the GKN Aerospace’s response to the hazmat incident that led to the evacuation of as many as 50,000 people over the Memorial Day weekend will be held on Tuesday starting at 6 p.m.

Delta Hotel, located at 12021 Harbor Blvd. in Garden Grove (southwest of Chapman Avenue), is the location.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

A slide show on the process for the claims program along with updates on the facility and safety enhancements will be shown and will be made available in English, Vietnamese, Spanish and Korean.

There will be free parking available to attendees in the hotel parking lot.

For “safety reasons,” there will be limits on what you can bring into the meeting hall. Small personal or medical items (clear bags preferred) will be allowed.

Backpacks, large bags and other “oversized” items won’t permitted and all permitted bags will be screened before entry is allowed. Garden Grove Police Department staff will be present to support the event.

A court-approved settlement of $125 million is in place to compensate persons, businesses, government agencies and others who suffered an economic impact through lost wages, hotel costs, medical issues, etc.

The incident began at the GKN facility on May 21 with fumes leaking from a crack in a tank containing the MMA plastic.
A mandatory evacuation zone that included parts of West Garden Grove, Cypress, Stanton, Westminster and surrounding  cities was declared over fears of a possible major leak or explosion. The worst didn’t happen, but the incident led to concerns about the safety of the factory, which manufactures canopies and windows for civilian and military aircraft.
