A 60-year-old Westminster man was arrested Tuesday morning in Garden Grove on fraud charges. According to Lt. Bob Bogue of the Garden Grove Police Department, Abdel Luis Rojas has been arrested and booked into Orange County Jail in Santa Ana for theft by fraud and multiple counts of grand theft.
Police say that Rojas ran a phony travel business under the names of “AGS Travel,” “A&S Travel,” “AES Travel” and “Visa Travel” from an office at 8550 Garden Grove Blvd. in Garden Grove. Twenty-one victims have come forth, according to the GGPD, claiming that Rojas accepted large amounts of cash for vacation itineraries that weren’t real.
Families showed up airports to find that the promised reservations had not been made. Police say that, instead, Rojas kept the money, believed to be about $50,000. They served a search warrant at his business and made the arrest.
Any additional victims who suffered a loss in the operation are asked to contact authorities. Information is to be referred to Investigator Scott Coleman at (714) 741-5815 or Investigator Thi Huynh at (714) 741-5835.
