A motorist driving at an estimated 100 miles an hour crashed his vehicle into a cinder block wall early Friday morning in Westminster, but escaped with minor injuries.

According to the WPD, Sgt. Mark Lauderback was on patrol when he saw the car racing westbound on Garden Grove Boulevard near Hoover Street. It went through a red light at that intersection and narrowly missed striking another vehicle.

The driver tried to make a turn southbound onto Edwards Street but the car went out of control and struck the wall. The driver, a 20-year-old man, was trapped inside the vehicle. Sgt. Lauderback called for help from other officers and the Orange County Fire Authority, which provides paramedic service for Westminster.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, had to be cut out of the vehicle but his injuries were considered minor. He was hospitalized and cited for drunk driving there.

Westminster police made three DUI arrests that night, all connected to separate traffic collisions.
