ANGELS BOMB THE MARINERS
Albert Pujols and Kole Calhoun each hit two home runs as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim beat Mariners in Seattle 10-3. For Pujols, he now has 588 career homers and is alone in ninth place on the all-time home run list.
The Angels got off to a big first inning start as Calhoun, Mike Trout and Pujols hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to build a 6-0 lead.
Tyler Skaggs got the win to square his record at 3-3. The Angels are now at 60-75 after having won eight of their last 10 games. They remain in fourth place in the American League West.
PANTHERS DEVOUR THE COLONISTS
Brandon Warren and Miguel Orendain accounted for six touchdowns as Orange opened its season with a 39-0 rout of Anaheim Saturday night at Fred Kelly Stadium.
Warren ran for two scores and Orendain ran for three – and passed for another – in the win. Nathan Howard was the top rusher for the Panthers with 103 yards.
RUSTLERS OPEN WITH A WIN
Golden West College’s football team kicked off its 2016 campaign Saturday with a 33-0 win over Glendale College at Sartoris Field. Adam Vance passed for 158 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, while Gabriel Ford carried the ball 17 times for 133 yards and one TD.
GWC comes home on Sept. 10 to host Riverside at LeBard Stadium in Costa Mesa.
